Community Housing Development Corporation (CHDC)
Mission at a Glance
Community Housing Development Corporation (CHDC) is dedicated to creating and sustaining vibrant communities by providing high quality affordable housing and neighborhood services that positively impact people’s lives. CHDC is recognized statewide for its asset-building programs for low-income households.
Our Neighborhood Stabilization Efforts
CHDC was founded in 1990 by local leaders in North Richmond working to eliminate blight, improve housing opportunities for current and future residents, and create better economic conditions. It emerged from a housing committee of the North Richmond Neighborhood House, and received early support from several local faith-based organizations. As of 2011, we have developed or co-developed a total of 752 affordable housing units in the Richmond area, including 216 new or rehabilitated homes sold to first-time buyers with low or moderate incomes. We are a member of NeighborWorks America, a national nonprofit organization chartered by Congress to support community development and revitalization.
