Located 29 miles east of San Francisco at the base of beautiful Mount Diablo, Concord is the largest city in Contra Costa County covering approximately 31 square miles, with a population of approximately 127,000. With its convenient centralized location, Concord provides ready access to San Francisco, Napa Valley, Silicon Valley and Sacramento. The County Connection provides limited public transportation in the city and to other points in the county. Buses run from the North Concord BART station to Martinez, the County seat. Concord is served by Interstate 680, and State Highways 4 and 242, connecting it to commercial airports such as San Francisco International, 31 miles away, Oakland International, 37 miles away, and San Jose, 52 miles away. Bank of America is one of Concord’s largest employers, as is Wells Fargo Credit Center, John Muir Health and Chevron Credit Center.
In Concord, you are never far from a recreational facility, major theme park, open green spaces, theatre, shopping center, or restaurants. Todos Santos Plaza is a community gathering place for the downtown, spanning a full city block. It hosts a free Music and Market Series, May–September, on Thursday evenings, 6:30-8pm. There is also a year-round Farmers Market there on Tuesday mornings, 10-2pm. Shoppers will enjoy the variety at Sunvalley Mall, one of the 50 largest malls in the United States, as well as in the Willows Shopping Center and the historic downtown. Take the family to enjoy the Six Flags Waterworld Concord, a 23-acre water park, or take in some of the world-class entertainment at the Sleep Train Pavilion, a unique outdoor concert venue, tucked into the rolling hills beneath Mt. Diablo. Mount Diablo Unified School District is one of the largest school districts in the state of California, with over 56 school sites and programs. There are 24 elementary schools, 14 middle schools and 17 high schools, and all are committed to providing a safe, secure, nurturing and stimulating learning environment. California State University, East Bay has a campus in Concord, as well as the nearby Diablo Valley Community College.

The city of Concord believes in the promotion of active places to play and relax. The extensive park system has playgrounds, ball fields, swimming pools, secluded picnic areas and miles of scenic hiking trails. Get out and explore Mount Diablo State Park. The Donner Canyon Waterfall Loop is the perfect trail to immerse you in Concord’s natural beauty. The children will love Concord’s 14 renovated public playgrounds, including Matteo’s Dream, a playground for children of all abilities, one of the few playgrounds in the nation where children who cannot walk, see or hear can play safely alongside children who can.
